Information

Objectives of the course:

This will be a seminar, meaning a two-day workshop. In this seminar Alfonso will teach on color theory, character and atmosphere, drawing on his broad background as an artist. The objective of the course is to learn from Alfonso's way of thinking about a piece — a real teacher's teacher. The seminar is beginner friendly, but the concepts run deep enough to be just as valuable for advanced painters and masters. Take this opportunity to learn from one of the best in the industry, ask questions and get relevant critiques on your prior work. This seminar also aims to be a meeting point for enthusiasts of the hobby, to share a weekend of learning, enjoying the company of other modelers, and enhancing and expanding the ties of our community.

Content & program:

During the course we will work on "The Barbarian," a 75mm cartoon-style figure (with a backdrop), which might be something new to you. Don't be afraid however, as it offers a great learning opportunity — the model comes with interchangeable parts, including three different heads, a shield and a shoulder pad, so each participant can create something of their own. It's also built for exploring a wide range of techniques: volumetry, skin, non-metallic metal, fur and leather. Don't expect to go home with a finished piece by the end of the weekend however; this is not the goal. The focus is to learn a new approach and some new techniques. It's a canvas to try on. Rather see it as a stepping stone for future works.

About miniature painting workshops:

Hello, my name is Wouter Schaap and I'm the organiser of the miniature painting workshop by Alfonso Giraldes in Zeist, the Netherlands. For over 20 years I've been in the hobby, attended multiple workshops and since 2022 have hosted similar weekends with some of the best in the industry (Marc Masclans, Alfonso Giraldes, Arnau Lazaro and Ivan Hortal). Witnessing first hand the effect a professional can have on the way people learn and develop themselves. This drives me to this day to bring the best miniature painters from around the world to the Netherlands to share their knowledge.
